Noise & Vibration Damping
Working closely with an external, independent acoustics research lab and consultancy, KP Acoustics Group, MP Films is dedicated to achieving the perfect harmony of sound and silence in the world of boat building. Acoustics are the lynchpin in creating environments that seamlessly blend luxury with safety, and our mission is to support you in achieving that balance.
Our partner in this endeavour, KP Acoustics Research Labs and Consultancy, stand at the forefront of acoustics, offering indispensable expertise in a realm where sound and silence matter most. Our commitment to this field stems from the vital role acoustics play in both leisure and commercial boat building, creating environments that marry luxury with safety.
Together with KP Acoustics, we don't just claim expertise; we live it. We diligently track the evolving needs of our clients and the market to provide highly specialised marine and maritime acoustic services. This dedication is fortified by KP Acoustic’s world-leading in-house research, training, testing, and development capabilities.
But why is acoustics so critical in boat building? Whether it's the tranquility of a leisure boat or the demands of a commercial vessel, acoustics shape the very essence of the experience. The careful management of sound ensures that passengers and crew can enjoy a level of comfort while adhering to stringent health and safety requirements.
As the exclusive UK supplier of three variations of Nitto’s leading Hexadamp family of noise & vibration reduction products (see below), MP Films stands with KP Acoustics ready to assist their clients in providing comprehensive acoustic design, sound insulation investigations, noise at work assessments, noise impact assessments and more.
We work in partnership with Nitto and our dedicated sound analysts, KP Acoustics Ltd, to offer a range of products already supplied, proven, and used within the automotive, aerospace and marine industries for the reduction of noise and vibration dampening.
LEGETOLEX
LEGETOLEX (Ref-D300) is a visco-elastic, structural damper with a high damping performance and a low weight.
Made up of a constrained layer of damping material on a lightweight thin sheet, it features high vibration damping and radiation of noise efficiency abatement. We can supply this lightweight, cost-effective, noise-damping material in pre-cut damping pads or on larger sheet.
Its adhesive layer is a further upgraded part of the product assuring a solid hold even in non-optimal conditions and on any vibrating, flat or uneven surfaces.
This product represents an alternative viscoelastic bi-component product guaranteeing certain performances and dramatic reduction of application time.
-
Use: High performance vibration damping
Extremely lightweight, reduces overall vessel weight
Excellent adhesion on the vibrating structure thanks to the special rubber compound
Easy to apply even on curved or oily surfaces
Available as very effective pre-cut damping pads (240mm x 290mm and 195mm x 290mm) or as larger sheets (e.g. 1000mm x 550mm)
HEXADAMP
Nitto’s HEXADAMP (Ref-D620) is a multifunctional structural layer material with high damping performance and low weight.
The core of the material consists of a PP honeycomb structure attached to a viscoelastic butyl with aluminium foil topping, the construct is made self-adhesive by a double-coated tape on the opposite side.
Nito Hexadamp is ideal for the treatment of low frequency noise and vibration problems. The product can increase the rigidity of your substrate in combination with good thermal insulation properties.
-
Use: High performance vibration damping adjustable by various constraint layer types
Ideal for treatment of low frequency noise and vibration problems (booming)
Excellent damping performance, even in elevated temperature conditions
Increases rigidity of substrate
Good thermal insulation properties
Design and technical support available from our dedicated sound analysts
HEXADAMP Plus
Nitto’s HEXADAMP Plus (Ref-D6610) is a multilayer structural damping material with high damping performance and low weight. The core of the material consists of a PP honeycomb structure layer on both sides bonded to a visco-elastic butyl layer, with a release liner on top. The visco-elastic butyl layer is self-adhesive and suitable to be used on rough surfaces which makes it ideal for application to cabin, wall, ceiling and bulkhead.
This lightweight multilayer product, especially designed for the marine industry, is to be fitted with a constraint layer such as a steel, aluminium or fibre reinforced plate/foil by either the end-user or by Nitto. The thickness and type of constraint layer can be customized according to vibration damping requirements.
Nitto’s HEXADAMP Plus with applied constraint layer is a highly efficient structural vibration damper.
-
Use: A dampener with customer constraint layer
Multilayered honeycombed adhesive material
For application to deck, cabin, wall, ceiling, bulk head
For interior damping
Product can be cut into sheets to suit application requirements
